User accounts

Account creation and authentication

Users may create an account using either:

Social Sign-in: Using OAuth authentication through Google or Discord.
Email and Password: By providing a valid email address and creating a password. Accounts created via email/password require email verification before full activation.

To create and maintain your account, we collect necessary information depending on your chosen method. This may include:

For Social Sign-in: Your unique User ID provided by Google or Discord and the email address associated with that social account. Your profile picture is initially retrieved from the public profile picture associated with your linked social account and displayed within Chlorobase.
For Email/Password Sign-up: The email address and hashed password you provide. You may optionally upload a profile picture after account creation.

A random username will be automatically assigned upon account creation, regardless of the sign-up method. Users may customize their username and update their profile picture according to our guidelines.

Account termination

Users can delete their account at any time by contacting us at [email protected]. There is currently no self-service account deletion feature (yet!).

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms and Conditions. Upon account termination, personal data will be handled as described in our Privacy Policy.

User-generated content

Plant collections and wishlists data

Users may create and manage their own plant collections and wishlists. Users can control the privacy settings of their wishlists (public or private). Public wishlists and collections are viewable by other users and visitors.

Plant submissions and updates

Users may submit plant information, updates, and images to our database. By submitting content, you represent and warrant that:

You own or have obtained all necessary rights to the content
You grant Chlorobase a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide license to use, reproduce, modify, and display the content on its website and our social networks.
The content does not infringe on any third party's intellectual property rights

Our use of user content

Chlorobase is currently not monetized. We aims to be both a valuable community resource and a sustainable business. We may monetize the site through advertising, affiliate links, and other commercial opportunities that help support our work. When you submit content to Chlorobase, you're helping build a useful resource for the plant community while allowing us to potentially earn revenue from that content through these channels. This enables us to continue improving the platform and adding new features.

We reserve the right to review, update, or remove any user-submitted content at our sole discretion.

Community guidelines

To keep Chlorobase a helpful and accurate resource, we ask users to avoid:

Submitting false, misleading, or inaccurate information on purpose
