This plant was first found by a grower in Japan named Mr. Itoh, who noticed a white variegated version appearing after cutting back one of his existing plants. He believed it came from plants originally brought from China and first called it 'Ten Shin Ran', before it was later renamed 'White Monster' by Kunzo Nishihata, who purchased it in the 1990's.
