sarracenia purpurea

Side-saddle flower, Huntsman's cup.

Care level

Difficult

Unlike its taller cousins, this hardy pitcher plant forms a rosette of short, chubby pitchers that look like little purple-veined cups laying on their sides. Each pitcher becomes its own mini ecosystem, collecting rainwater where tiny creatures swim, making it one of the few carnivorous plants that team up with bacteria to digest their prey.
